CFDA/Lexus Eco-Fashion Challenge Unveils Winning Sustainable Collections at New York Fashion Week

The winning designers of the 2nd annual Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA)/Lexus Eco-Fashion Challenge unveiled their sustainable clothing and accessory collections on Feb. 9 at MADE at Milk Studios as part of New York Fashion Week. The show was attended by fashion editors and buyers who viewed eco-friendly designs from this year’s three competition winners: Marcia Patmos of New York, John Bartlett of New York and Johnson Hartig from Los Angeles.

Each winning designer developed a clothing or accessory line demonstrating a commitment to ecologically responsible design. A minimum 25 percent of the collection had to be produced in an environmentally friendly manner. Many of the competition proposals included components such as recycled plastic, reclaimed wood, minimal packaging, and non-chemically treated fabrics.

Winner Marcia Patmos incorporated multiple sustainable ideas into her designs, including zero-waste technology in her garment production, sourcing vegetable-tanned leather, and using animal-friendly faux fur. Designer John Bartlett’s “Future-Rustic” collection was fabricated almost entirely in cruelty free, animal-free materials such as plant-based fabrics, organic cottons, and recycled synthetic materials, while winner Johnson Hartig, co-designer of the Libertine clothing line, also showed his eco-friendly fashions.

“Seeing the winning collections come to life on the runway is truly a thrill for us at Lexus,” stated Brian Smith, vice president of marketing for Lexus. “By partnering with the CFDA to create the Eco-Fashion Challenge, Lexus is encouraging sustainable lifestyles that don’t sacrifice style or luxury. We’re proud to support these industry thought-leaders as they share our passion for accelerating change in their respective field.”

The three winners each received $25,000 to support development of their collections. The proposals were selected by a panel of judges including Simon Collins (Parsons the New School For Design), Zanna Roberts Rossi (Marie Claire), Scott Hahn (Rogan/Loomstate), Julie Gilhart (consultant), Steven Kolb (CFDA) and Lisa Smilor (CFDA). Entries were selected based on design credibility, business acumen and eco-commitment, with attention focused on eco-fabrics, materials, processes and packaging.

HendrickCars.com will sponsor three NASCAR teams in select races in early 2012. The sponsorships will promote the new-look retail automotive website, which re-launched Feb. 1, and coincide with the HendrickCars.com “2012 Indy Dream Weekend” sweepstakes.

The program will kick off during Speedweeks in Daytona Beach, Fla., with primary sponsorship of Phoenix Racing and 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kurt Busch in the Feb. 25 Nationwide Series race and Feb. 26 Daytona 500. It will continue with primary sponsorship of JR Motorsports and driver Cole Whitt in the March 17 Nationwide event at Bristol, Tenn.

In addition, HendrickCars.com will be a major associate sponsor of the Richard Childress Racing No. 33 Chevrolet with driver Elliott Sadler in NASCAR’s biggest race, the Daytona 500.

“Last year’s Daytona 500 broadcast alone averaged more than 15 million viewers, and we expect 2012 will be even stronger,” said Rick Hendrick, Chairman of Hendrick Automotive Group, which owns HendrickCars.com. “Combined with our sponsorship in the Nationwide Series, that’s tens of millions of people seeing our brand, hearing our message and then visiting HendrickCars.com. We wanted to showcase the new site, and there’s no more effective marketing tool than NASCAR.”

In conjunction with the sponsorship, HendrickCars.com is launching the “2012 Indy Dream Weekend” sweepstakes. From Feb. 13 through March 19, visitors can log onto HendrickCars.com to register for a chance to win a weekend for two at the July 29 Sprint Cup race in Indianapolis. The winner and a guest will receive behind-the-scenes access, a tour of the historic racing venue, VIP seats in a trackside suite and more. The winner will be announced March 23 at www.HendrickCars.com.

The sponsorship of Whitt pairs HendrickCars.com with an up-and-coming young driver and Nationwide Series rookie-of-the-year contender. In his first season at JR Motorsports, Whitt, 20, is joining a No. 88 team that finished fourth in the championship standings in 2011.

In 2009, HendrickCars.com sponsored driver Tony Stewart in the season-opening Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway. Stewart led 23 laps on his way to winning the event, which drove record traffic to HendrickCars.com.

[[posterous-content:pid___0]]On the heels of Lexus’ first Super Bowl spot, the luxury automaker is launching a multi-faceted marketing campaign today for its highly anticipated 2013 Lexus GS sport sedan. The bold new GS—which arrives in showrooms this week—marks a defining moment in Lexus’ history, with major enhancements in performance, design, technology and luxury.

“This vehicle has come farther, faster than any other vehicle we've developed, and is the first to wear the new design face of Lexus,” said Brian Smith, Lexus vice president of marketing. “With the GS, we’re redefining our place in the industry, as well as in drivers’ minds. Our marketing campaign has to do the same, and it’s supported by one of the largest media buys in the history of the company.”

There’s No Going Back
Each of the four television commercials featured in the campaign reinforce the notion that once you rewrite the rules of your industry, “There’s no going back.”

Two spots titled, “Resistance,” highlight the cutting-edge technology features available in the new GS. On a moonlit night, objects from technology’s past, including a telephone booth, turntable, and typewriter, begin to slide along a desolate road, as if pulled by a mysterious force. The GS begins to get pulled back as well, but the car fights the force and breaks free, taking off in the other direction. As the car gains momentum, it skillfully swerves around the oncoming objects. One spot introduces us to the next generation Enform® app suite, where apps allow drivers to perform local searches, make restaurant reservations, purchase movie tickets and more. The second spot promotes leading-edge safety technology—including the Night Vision System and Blind Spot Monitor—which help keep the driver safe from the dangerous objects hurtling his way.

A third spot, “Beast,” is a derivative of the brand’s Super Bowl commercial and showcases performance features of the vehicle, including the four driving modes (ECO, Normal, Sport and Sport S+) and Lexus Dynamic Handling system. In a futuristic lab, there are several loud thuds, and a large metal containment box bursts open with a dramatic explosion as the all-new GS races out of the box. As the GS F Sport aggressively maneuvers through a tunnel in the science facility, the voiceover announces that “the next generation of Lexus will not be contained.”

The GS F Sport drives through city streets in the fourth spot of the campaign, “Earn It,” a multicultural spot illustrating that success comes from “bold decisions.” This spot will run nationally on select cable networks.

Campaign Fueled by Interactive Technology
Beyond the new broadcast spots, Lexus is launching several programs in print, online, TV, and radio as part of its overall GS integrated marketing campaign.

In a first-to-market opportunity for the automaker, Lexus will create an insert utilizing NFC (near field communication) technology for Wired, appearing in select copies of the April issue. In a highly targeted campaign component that transforms consumer interaction with print publications, Lexus will utilize emerging technology to showcase the Enform app suite to tech enthusiasts. The insert will allow NFC-enabled smartphone users to view the mobile site upon placing the phone on top of the insert. Other smartphone users can access the mobile site by entering the URL in their browsers.

The next-generation Enform app suite also will be spotlighted in two new partner programs. Luxury lifestyle website JustLuxe will feature editorial content on upscale dining experiences, allowing readers to link directly to Open Table to make reservations. Lexus also will create a new GS branded music station on Pandora highlighting artists, songs and albums that have revolutionized the music industry.

As another campaign initiative to engage consumers, Lexus is partnering with NBC Universal to Shazam three popular programs during certain episodes. Viewers become active participants while watching “The Soup” on E!, “Psych” on USA, and “Being Human” on SyFy. With the NBCU “Shazam Nights” program, viewers will have access to extended programming content, as well as GS video and photo galleries via their mobile devices. Participants also will gain access to win a custom travel package, upgraded in GS fashion.

Online initiatives celebrating Lexus’ Super Bowl debut include YouTube mobile and MSN and ESPN homepage takeovers, the biggest post-game presence in Lexus history. The overall campaign also consists of a heavy digital presence with high-impact roadblocks on auto and lifestyle sites, as well as exclusive mobile and tablet sponsorships.

The print campaign will be featured prominently in Automobile, Esquire and Robb Report. Key out-of-home marketing highlights include full-motion video boards at DC Gallery Place and new digital boards in New York City’s Times Square. Additionally, “Beast” will run in 700 movie theaters in more than 150 markets.

The broadcast spots begin airing tonight during primetime, late night, cable programs, network and cable sports, and spot TV. Additional sports broadcast packages include multi-channel advertising with NHL and NCAA March Madness.

The :30 second commercial features the all-new 2013 GS as it breaks free from containment, illustrating the company’s move in a new design direction for the brand. The spot also hints at the additional new vehicles Lexus will unveil later in the year, which are waiting in the wings for their turn to burst onto the scene.

With a host of new vehicles coming to market in 2012, Lexus is poised to be one of the fastest-growing luxury brands this year. To kick off the product onslaught, the company will debut its first-ever Super Bowl commercial for Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday, February 5 on NBC.

“This is a big year for Lexus as we introduce nine new or updated models, and the Super Bowl provides us with an equally big opportunity to reach a highly engaged audience of 50 million people,” said Brian Smith, Lexus vice president of marketing. “The star of our commercial is the all-new 2013 GS which launches in February and kicks off a pivotal era for the Lexus brand. The spot also will convey that even more products are waiting in the wings and are anxious to hit the road.”

The :30 second commercial is scheduled to run during the first half of Super Bowl XLVI. A :15 second sneak-peek of the commercial can be seen today on Lexus social media channels, including Facebook.com/Lexus and YouTube.com/Lexus. The ads were created by Attik, a Lexus roster agency, while the overall GS launch advertising is headed by Lexus’ agency of record, Team One.

Leading up to its Super Bowl commercial, Lexus is embarking on a unique social media activation called TweetDrive Engineered by Lexus. It is a socially-fueled game engaging football fans during the professional football playoffs. TweetDrive Engineered by Lexus airs live on NBCSports.com and offers fans the opportunity to earn yardage, move their “team” down the field and score a touchdown during the actual playoff games and throughout the week.

Toyota and Lexus Say 'Welcome Home' to Troops with Special Financing and Military Rebate Program for All New Toyota and Lexus Vehicles

As tens of thousands of troops return from overseas deployments, Toyota and Toyota Financial Services (TFS), and Lexus and Lexus Financial Services (LFS) are offering special APRs and rebates to qualified military personnel and inactive reserves through participating dealers.

In recognition of their service, qualified Toyota buyers under the Welcome Home Special APR Program can receive a 1.9% APR for up to 60 months when financing any new 2011 or 2012 Toyota vehicle through a participating Toyota dealer and TFS. In addition, a $500 Military Rebate may be used in conjunction with the special APR.

Lexus buyers who qualify under the Welcome Home Special APR Program can receive a 0.9% APR for up to 60 months on new 2011 or 2012 ES and IS (includes all sedans, Convertible and IS F) and 2012 RX350 vehicles or 1.9% APR for up to 60 months on any other new Lexus vehicle when financing through a participating Lexus dealer and LFS. In addition, a $750 Military Rebate may be used in conjunction with the special APRs.

Lexus Introduces 2013 LX 570 Luxury Utility Vehicle at North American International Auto Show

Sporting a new Lexus spindle grille, new 20-inch alloy wheel design and upgraded interior for the 2013 model year, the eight-passenger LX 570 continues to deliver on challenging off-road adventures as well as luxurious daily driving.

The 2013 LX 570 gets a new look at both the front and rear. New LED daytime running lights complement new headlamp design and new larger fog lamp bezels. Taillamps are also updated, while the rear license plate surround gets a revised look and the tow hitch cover is more integrated. Both front and rear bumpers are refreshed, and the rear bumper protector is enhanced by a stainless steel accent.

Turn signals have been added to the side mirrors, and wider bodyside moldings sport a new look.

The spacious, eight-passenger cabin of the LX 570 receives a number of upgrades and changes. The driver’s seat gets a new Easy Access system, which makes entering and exiting the vehicle easier. The steering wheel and driver’s seat automatically retract when the ignition is turned off. Front seats also feature improved cooling, and a 120-volt power outlet has been added to the middle row. The instrument panel has been updated and a new color display is applied. A dark chrome finish for the center instrument cluster and front side air vents, along with a new chrome accent above the glove box, freshen the look of the instrument panel as well.

The cabin of the 2013 LX 570 also gets mahogany wood trim. Parchment replaces Cashmere as an interior leather trim color. Two new exterior colors are available: Medium Nebula Gray Pearl and Satin Cashmere Metallic, replacing Twilight Gray Metallic and Golden Almond Metallic.

Engine/Transmission/Drivetrain/Performance
The LX 570's 5.7-liter V8 delivers the punch and towing power demanded in this segment. The powerplant produces 383 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and peak torque of 403 lb.-ft at 3,600 rpm. Crucial to LX customers who tow with their vehicles, 90 percent of peak torque is available at just 2,200 rpm.

The LX 570 is equipped with an electronically-controlled six-speed automatic transmission that estimates road conditions and predicts the driver's intention in order to select the appropriate gear ratio for the vehicle's speed and the driving conditions. A sequential shift mode allows the driver to select gears manually. Even at very low speeds, such as trail driving, the transmission operates smoothly and imperceptibly.

The LX 570's transfer case provides full-time four-wheel drive that is equally adept at handling the rigors of slippery winter weather or deep mud or snow. The system uses a TORSEN® limited-slip locking center differential to distribute power 40:60 front-to-rear, directing more power to the wheels with the best grip should slippage occur. Four-wheel Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) employs both brake and throttle intervention to help control wheel spin. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) helps maintain directional control during cornering and can be disengaged via the “TRAC off” switch.

The updated Crawl Control feature provides optimum throttle and brake modulation when maneuvering over rough, uneven or difficult surfaces. The new Turn Assist feature also helps by tightening the turning circles by adding more brake force to the inside rear wheel. The new Multi-terrain Select also allow you to optimize performance by choosing from five types of terrain. Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) helps provide additional control for off-road driving by helping to keep the vehicle from rolling back when your foot moves from the brake to the gas pedal on a steep incline or slippery surface.

Chassis/Body/Suspension/Tires/Brakes
The LX 570’s highly capable chassis is equipped with an advanced suspension system. The high-mount, independent double-wishbone front suspension allows for nine inches of total front wheel travel for outstanding articulation over rough roads and obstacles. The four-link trailing-arm rear suspension retains the solid-axle configuration for strength and durability. Body-on-frame construction provides ruggedness and durability in challenging driving conditions, plus impressive ride isolation characteristics and a 7,000-pound towing capability.

The Active Height Control system lowers the chassis by about two inches for easy entry and exit and returns automatically to its normal height when the vehicle begins to accelerate. An Easy Access mode allows the driver to also lower the vehicle when it is parked. For improved aerodynamics, the AHC system lowers the vehicle at highway speeds. When the transfer case is shifted into low range, AHC raises the vehicle to provide additional ride height in driving situations where chassis clearance is at a premium.

The Adaptive Variable Suspension system provides three modes to control the spring rate and shock absorber damping force to provide optimal handling and comfort for on-road or trail driving. Comfort mode provides a softer response on extremely bumpy roads, while the Normal and Sport modes help provide increasingly greater levels of control for driving a heavily loaded vehicle, driving at higher speeds on paved roads, or driving on unpaved roads.

The standard split five-spoke, 20-inch alloy wheels with Liquid Graphite finish wear 285/50R20 tires. The multi-terrain ABS system determines road-surface conditions and automatically optimizes lock-up control, selecting the suitable ABS profile for on- and off-road driving surfaces. Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) employs the ABS to properly balance braking forces between the front and rear wheels, while Brake Assist (BA) provides auxiliary force to assist the driver during emergency braking.

Standard/Safety/Security Features
The LX 570 is equipped with 10 standard airbags, including driver- and front-passenger knee airbags, front and second-row seat-mounted side airbags in the outboard seating positions, and roll-sensing side curtain airbags that cover all three rows. All eight seating positions feature three-point seatbelts. The second-row seatbelts integrate pre-tensioners for the outboard seats and an ALR/ELR (Automatic Locking Retractor/Emergency Locking Retractor) seatbelt for the center seat.

The LX 570 was the first vehicle in its class to use Active Front Headrests which move upward and forward in the event of certain low speed rear-end collisions when the force of the occupant's body is applied to the seat back.

The LX 570 was also the first in its class to offer available Pre-Collision System with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. In addition, LX 570 was the first Lexus to offer the optional Wide-view Front and Side Camera feature designed for use in tight settings, such as parking garages. With cameras located within the front grille and under the passenger outside mirror, the driver can check hard-to-view areas by simply pressing a button on the dashboard and viewing the camera images on the standard navigation system screen. The Wide-view Front and Side Camera functions up to a vehicle speed of about 7.5 mph and can display the front and side views simultaneously in split-screen mode.

Luxury/Comfort/Convenience
A full array of standard luxury amenities includes four-zone independent climate control, front-seat power-seat cushion extenders, a rear back-up camera, Lexus Navigation System and nine-speaker Lexus Premium Sound system with iPod/USB connectivity, HD radio with iTunes tagging, and streaming music via Bluetooth®.

The Lexus Navigation System includes Lexus Enform® with Safety Connect® (includes complimentary one-year trial subscription), Voice Command casual-language voice recognition and Bluetooth phonebook download. The system now comes with the next-generation Lexus Enform® Application Suite, the system that leverages the customers’ mobile phone technology to provide a new level of connectivity and information management. Users can conduct local searches through Bing, or utilize voice-enabled apps to make restaurant reservations through OpenTable, get movie tickets via MovieTickets.com or tap into internet radio, including Pandora® or iHeartRadio.

Users will also appreciate the ability to check-in on Facebook, and search for various business reviews including restaurants on Yelp. SiriusXM data services offer information on stocks, traffic, weather, sports and fuel prices. Enform® is supported on iPhone, Android and Blackberry. SiriusXM services offer complimentary 90-day trial subscriptions and require separate audio and data subscriptions.

The standard power-sliding second-row seat slides forward and aft 3.5 inches for passenger comfort and cargo storage versatility. The second-row seatbacks provide a convenient 40/20/40 split. The second row seat is specially engineered to make tumbling it forward easy for anyone. A power retractable third-row seat is standard. The split rear tailgate features a power upper door, while the bottom section raises and lowers with minimal effort.

The LX 570 offers an optional Luxury Package that includes a cool box for beverages; semi-aniline leather-trimmed upholstery with contrast stitching, heated steering wheel and mahogany wood trimmed door door switch plates; heated and ventilated front seats and heated second-row seats (outboard position only); and Smart Access.

In addition to the Luxury Package, the new LX 570 now features a rear dual screen rear-seat entertainment system with wireless headphones and three-prong electrical outlet. This system allows two video sources to be viewed at the same time – for instance, one can be used as a DVD player while the other as a game console or audio player.

For audiophiles, a 19-speaker Mark Levinson® Reference Surround Sound audio system is also available with 450-watts maximum power and 15 channels.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today announced that 15 Toyota, Lexus, and Scion vehicles earned Top Safety Pick awards for the 2012 model year, more than any other automaker.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Steve St. Angelo, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc., said, “Safety is a core value that dates back to the foundation of our company. IIHS’ awards further recognize our commitment to helping protect drivers and passengers.”

The 2012 model year winners are: Toyota Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Prius, Prius v, Sienna, Tundra Crew Cab, Venza, and Yaris; Lexus CT 200h and RX, and Scion tC, xB, and xD.

You can't believe everything you see on TV. The rift between marketing and reality is kind of a foregone conclusion. However convincing the presentation, we're suspicious of getting the whole truth and nothing but.

Seasonal car commercials are perfect examples. Shiny happy one-percenters don't really surprise their spouses with new Lexuses adorned with big red bows, do they?

Yes, Virginia, they do. And as The Detroit News reports, consumers reenacting the sugary sentiment can account for a thick slice of this month's sales--nearly a third, as one metro Detroit Lexus dealer states.

Lexus didn't introduce year-end clearances, but since 1999 it's been presented as a Christmas gift idea by the automaker. Dealers get in the act from extending by-appointment hours to arranging surprise at-home delivery--complete with car-sized 42-inch wide red ribbon.

In an industry that thrives on the sincerest form of flattery, this is one angle competitors don't imitate to the extent of Lexus. Buyers need not hold back, though. Like the article describes and as we reported earlier with analysis from TrueCar.com, this is an ideal time for new or used car shopping. Black Friday may have been the single-best day to deal, but December's remaining days--especially the 24th and the 27th through the 31st--are expected to be the next best.

Shoppers should know that dealer lots will resemble department store shelves this time of year: the longer they wait, the less selection they'll have from dwindling inventory. But unlike other presents, we imagine cars aren't often returned, with regifting even rarer.

As part of its popular annual December to Remember sales event, Lexus announced today that it will donate $5 to Toys for Tots for every big red bow shared via Facebook and Twitter. The campaign ends Jan. 3, 2012, with Lexus providing a maximum donation of $100,000 for the social media fundraiser.

Elevating the notion of recycling to an art form, Lexus challenged four of fashion’s most inventive designers to rethink their notions of automotive design for an advertising campaign to appear in Vogue. Using some of the more than 2,000 individual parts of a completely dismantled Lexus CT hybrid, a vehicle that is 90 percent recyclable*, the designers created fashionable works of art as part of The Lexus Fashion Workshop.

From crank bearings to exhaust gaskets, the designers took on the challenge with verve, turning some of the best engineered auto parts into innovative fashion accessories – all while driving home the beauty of recycling.

“Environmental Crown of Virtue”—A truly head-turning piece designed by Moss Lipow using a transmission starter and exhaust manifold gasket.
“The Valve Collection”—Designed by jewelry creator Eddie Borgo using valve lifters, crank bearings and hose clamps.
“Nomadic Sanctuary”—A sleek trench coat, shorts and clutch designed by John Patrick, featuring floor mats made from plant-based plastic, sustainable sound-dampening material, wire harness, leather seat covers and cargo covers
“The Luna Shoe”—Created by Alejandro Ingelmo using armrest leather trim and clear plastic tubing.

“Merging the worlds of luxury automobiles, art and fashion is another example of how Lexus is 'Engineering Amazing' or maybe more appropriately, 'Engineering Unexpected',” said Brian Smith, vice president of marketing for Lexus. “We were able to challenge four designers to turn one of our most progressive hybrid vehicles into innovative fashion pieces, inspiring the designers, and the world, to see things differently.”

The four pieces will be highlighted in a six-page advertisement in the January 2012 issue of Vogue. Additionally, a series of exclusive interviews with the four designers will be posted throughout December.

The collection will be on display December 1-2, 2011, opening day of Art Basel Miami Beach, one of the most prestigious art show in the Americas. The bold new Lexus GS 350, GS 450h and GS 350 F SPORT make their first North American auto show appearance this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The vehicles will be on display in the Lexus exhibit from November 18-27, 2011.

“We are excited to bring the GS family to the Los Angeles Auto Show, the first major auto show of the season,” said Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager. “The bold design of the new GS signals the advanced technology, performance and driving dynamics that combine with a roomier passenger cabin to deliver the complete package in a luxury sport sedan.”

Distinguished by the elegant beauty of its aerodynamic body, the precisely sculpted exterior of the all-new Lexus GS luxury sport sedan glows with aggressive performance and precision handling. Powered by an advanced 3.5-liter V6, putting 306 horsepower to the pavement, the four-cam, four valve per cylinder engine with dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) propels the 2013 GS 350 from 0-60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. The six-speed sequential shift automatic transmission, equipped with paddle shifters, offers four driving modes: Normal, ECO, SPORT S, and SPORT S+. An optional electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system is designed to enhance traction in a variety of driving conditions.

The cockpit of the new GS 350 continues the motif of design for the driver. A horizontal-themed instrument panel emphasizes spaciousness through its wide layout. Equal attention has been paid to maximizing space for rear passengers, with generous headroom, legroom, knee room and foot space.

GS buyers will also have access to next-generation Lexus Enform® with Safety Connect, along with advanced DVD audio and video compatibility. An SMS text-to-speech feature allows the driver to be read text messages and send preset responses with a compatible smart phone. With the optional navigation system, GS owners get an industry-first 12.3-inch, split-screen, high-resolution multi-media display.

The 2013 Lexus GS features a class-leading 10 airbags, along with new Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) front seats. Available options to help further enhance occupant safety include a pre-collision system, featuring a first-in-class infrared camera to monitor the driver’s eyes to check on driver status. Other available safety systems include a Night Vision System that enhances driver visibility at night; Heads Up Display (HUD); a Blind Spot Monitor that helps detect vehicles in rear/side blind spots; and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

GS 450h

Unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the hybrid version of the 2013 GS 350 incorporates improvements to its hybrid powertrain and is equipped with a second generation Lexus Hybrid Drive system. GS 450h engineers have aimed for reductions in fuel consumption and emissions, while providing exhilarating performance.

With a total system power output of 338 hp, the GS 450h will accelerate effortlessly from 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds. Conversely, fuel consumption is expected to be improved by more than 30 percent. The GS 450h is targeting certification as a Super-Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle II (SULEV II). The new GS hybrid also features a Drive Mode selector. In addition to the Normal mode, the driver can customize the driving experience using ECO, SPORT S, SPORT S+ and EV modes.

GS 350 F SPORT Package

Introduced this month at the 2011 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, the 2013 GS 350 with F SPORT package takes performance to an entirely new level. Unique to the F SPORT package will be aggressive 19-inch wheels, F SPORT-tuned Adaptive Variable Suspension, thicker anti-roll bars, bushing changes, and new larger front brakes with high friction pads. In addition, rear-wheel drive models will be equipped with 19-inch staggered width wheels and Variable Gear Ratio Steering. Inside, the all-new package also features a sporty attitude with a new 16-way power driver’s sport seat, unique interior design treatment and available F SPORT exclusive Cabernet Red leather interior.

Following the inspirational design cues of the IS line-up and CT 200h, the F SPORT package separates itself from the GS line-up with distinctive exterior details. To display its aggressive attitude, the GS 350 with F SPORT package will be outfitted with a sport front bumper and rear lower valence, rear lip spoiler, unique F SPORT mesh grille inserts and F SPORT badging.

The Lexus exhibit will also feature the latest Lexus models, including plenty of performance vehicles such as the inspirational and aspirational 552-horsepower V10 LFA supercar and special edition models of the 2012 LS 460 Sport, ES 350 Touring Edition and the CT 200h F SPORT Special Edition. An F SPORT accessories display will be featured as well.

The advertisement, part of the Lexus ‘Engineering Amazing’ campaign, is targeted to adults ages 25-54 and is the first impression these listeners will see upon starting their Pandora stations.
